Importing of existing tracks
Monza
is a really great track, buy SCGT and F12K and read on for a conversion. |
|
This page will show you a quicker way of getting existing tracks
with some work done for you. The files you will find here are created from scratch
by me, and you are allowed to download and use them. Follow the instructions
carefully.
First, all tracks noted here will have the same basic steps:
- Make sure you get a copy of SCGT if you haven't already bought
it.
- Download an existing SCGT track
- Use
Tagforce's MASpuce
to extract all the appropriate map & model files from the .MAS files (mostly
2 are present; a texturemap .MAS and a track objects .MAS). Throw these into
a temporary directory (i.e. C:\T\MONZA)
- Use
Tony Hirst's VRL2VRML
to convert all .VRL files to .WRL.
- Copy
or move all .BMP files to a new track directory, for example C:\SIMS\RACER\DATA\TRACKS\MONZA
- Make
a directory there named SCGT/wrl (that's 2 directories actually!)
- Copy
or move all .WRL files into the SCGT/wrl directory
- Run
TrackEd, and click 'Convert SCGT wrl's'. This will create Racer DOF files
from the .WRL ones, and you can throw away the .WRL's after this step if you
want.
- Download
the prefabricated Racer files (containing timelines, object definitions etc.)
and install into the track directory (i.e. C:\SIMS\RACER\DATA\TRACKS\MONZA).
- Run
Config and select the new track (or enter the track directory in racer.ini
directly)
For
more information on the MASpuce and VRL2VRML steps, check out the
tutorial. It's not hard.
- Make sure you get a copy of SCGT (I mean original ofcourse);
it's really a fun game even after all this time.
- Download the SCGT version from here.
- Use MASpuce and VRL2VRML as described above.
- Download the Racer track
files and add to the track directory.
- Notes: there are no good trackcams sofar, if anyone makes
them I'd be sure glad to get them. Also, not all objects are imported; enough
exercises left for the reader!
More of these prefab conversions may come, preferably with help
of you, the user, so I can concentrate on adding functionality instead of doing
the raw conversion work.
