WHAT IS THE QLOG FILE?

Racer does a lot of processing; loading cars, tracks, samples etc. This means a lot of warnings or errors can come up. Most of these messages end up in QLOG.txt; on Unices (Mac/Linux) this is the 'QLOG' file, on Windows this is the 'QLOG.txt' file (in your installation directory, i..e c:\sims\racer).

Racer does its best to continue even if warnings and errors appear. Normally when just driving you won't deal too much with QLOG, but especially for car & track designer, QLOG can give many important hints on what might still be wrong with your model or track. Don't ever release a car to the public without having checked that your QLOG stays clean when loading your car or track. To assist in this, while developing a car, set racer.ini's dev.log_last to 1. Whenever running & exiting Racer, if any errors or warnings came up, you will be presented with the last QLOG error messages (Windows only). Much recommended to avoid releasing cars that have loads of warnings (of which there are plenty unfortunately).

For general development notes, visit the development page.

OTHER LOG FILES

QLOG.txt is the most important file and errors should be found there. A dump of whatever is written to the console (the gray window in the top of the Racer window) can also be written. For that, edit racer.ini and set console.logfile to 'console.txt' for example. This would write all console messages to data/dump/console.txt (as well as writing to the console itself).
