How to deal with trouble.

TROUBLESHOOTING

There are a number of ways you can deal with trouble you have with Racer. In prioritized order:

• Check the FAQ.
• Optionally check an older troubleshooting document (only if you're using Racer v0.5 or Linux).
• Use a forum. Check out the forum page for the major Racer forums where you can post about your problems.
• Visit Racer's IRC channel: irc.enterthegame.com, #racer.
• As a last resort, contact Ruud.

DUAL-CORE ISSUES

There can be problems with Racer running very slow on Dual-core (or quad-core) machines, where you'd expected much faster framerates. I have tested things on an Intel Duo-core, which seems fine, but I've heard about problems with AMD dual-core machines. The problem is that multiple cores means multiple CPU timers. Older Racer beta versions used a CPU counter (TSC), which can give slight slowdowns on multi-core machines. On AMD, the game seems to run just very slow. 3 solutions I know of:

• Download the latest beta version (v0.5.3 beta 5+), which allows setting a CPU affinity mask. Set process.cpu_affinity_mask to 1 in racer.ini.
• After starting Racer, use the Task Manager to find process racer.exe, then right-click on it and set Affinity to only 1 CPU.
• Use a program like WinXPLauncher or Launch'n'Set to run Racer using only 1 CPU.
