IMPORTANT NOTE BEFORE DOWNLOADING
Although this version is a relatively 'stable' release, the latest beta versions use Cg (pixel/vertex shaders for OpenGL) and generally look much better. This version is here to provide people with low-end graphics cards a taste of and older version of Racer. Also, Racer v0.8.10 now contains a specific racer_nocg.exe, which doesn't load Cg shaders. That version uses the latest physics settings, so is recommended, especially if you're going to download cars and tracks.
If you have a good video card (nVidia 7900+ for example), you are very much advised to just try one of the latest beta versions to get a good feel of where Racer is now; go to the beta download page.

You need a full installation version (select one out of the list below, preferably the first):
INSTALLATION
It seems Racer can run in Vista, under certain circumstances. I've only had Vista for 4 hours before I backed out to XP, so I couldn't really test; the VS2005 compiler wasn't compatible with Vista unless you install SP1, and SP1 contains a compiler bug, so not really a system you want for development.
To run Racer, try changing the display theme (use the Windows Classic theme for example) until it runs. Yes, it seems that makes a difference. ;-) The latest beta versions work fine under Vista & Windows 7.
Don't forget! The beta versions are much better...
